Natural organic skin care: luxury and quality that's good for you
These days, environmentally savvy people are becoming interested in going organic in all areas of their lives. For them this means eschewing the conventional skincare products in the discount store in favor of natural organic skin care products. Natural products differ from the conventional in that they contain vitamins and botanicals instead of inorganic chemical ingredients. In addition,
natural skincare products are made in a more earth-friendly way, not relying on animal testing. To be labeled organic, the botanicals used must be grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
One type of ingredient organic products eliminate are the petrochemicals, such as petroleum jelly. Petrochemicals are often used because they are cheap and they give a product a long shelf life. Organic products might substitute coconut oil or shea butter, both of which are botanical oils with a rich feel that absorb well into the skin. One company that makes a full range of organic products is Dermaglow. Their natural products help the skin, providing remedies for problems such as wrinkles, dryness, cellulite, psoriasis, and eczema. The anti-oxidants they contain help the body's immune system, too.
Quite often, cheap skin care products are just that, 'cheap'
Vitamins and botanicals that are applied to the skin get into the blood stream, but are filtered much more efficiently than through the digestive system, making skincare products a great way to get the benefits of these substances into our bodies without some of the possible sensitivities or side effects. However, cheap discount store "natural" creams and lotions often have only a tiny percentage of these wholesome ingredients with the bulk being petrochemicals and other inorganics.
Another organic company, Eminence, features handmade products from Hungary, which contain the highest amounts possible of fresh, hand-picked herbal ingredients. Eminence products are available from spas and skincare professionals. Like homemade products, you can still see the seeds in some of them. Mineral salts from a thousand year old Hungarian lake are also among the ingredients, providing even more healing and care.
Alpha-hydroxy acids, or AHA's, are a type of botanical ingredient found in some organic skincare remedies. This term is often written as a plural, AHA's, because there are several different AHA's used. Some of these are malic acid, which comes from apples, tartaric acid that comes from grapes, and glycolic acid that comes from sugar cane. These acids are used to loosen the outer layer of skin cells, which improves flaking and mild acne. While much milder than a skin peel, AHA's can result in sensitivity, particularly to the sun.
